Last week, the University of Wales Press announced the new journal editor team for the Wales Journal of Education/Cylchgrawn Addysg Cymru: Professor Gary Beauchamp (Cardiff Metropolitan University), Professor Enlli Thomas (Bangor University), and me (Swansea University)!
The Wales Journal of Education/Cylchgrawn Addysg Cymru aims to appeal to researchers, policy-makers and practitioners who share the common goal of achieving excellence in education in Wales. Thus, alongside the major system-level education reforms in Wales (including the new Curriculum for Wales published in January 2020, to phase in from September 2022), this presents a timely opportunity to further develop a high-quality venue for articles that provide insight into education (and the education system) in Wales. However, given the nature of educational research, policy and practice, we are also keen to receive submissions of broader significance — including comparative studies, international contributions, and practitioner-led articles.
Alongside the new journal editor team, a refreshed editorial board and soon-to-be-announced advisory board, the Journal has also recently converted to a platinum open access model (with support from the Welsh Government). The May 2020 issue (Volume 22, Number 1) will be the first bilingual issue published fully open access. We are also in the process of procuring a new online journal submission system to provide improved support for authors, reviewers and editors.
We are now open to submissions to the Wales Journal of Education/Cylchgrawn Addysg Cymru for our first and following issues as a new editor team, to be published in 2021; we welcome a range of high-quality submissions across education research, policy and practice, especially with relevance to Wales. As mentioned above, there are now no charges to read or to contribute to the journal, and you can do so in either Welsh or English. If you wish to discuss whether a submission would be suitable for the Journal, please contact the editors here: wje.editors@press.wales.ac.uk.
